Car Insurance Without Drivers License

The first time I heard the mention of getting car insurance without a driver’s license I was really shocked. My shock really came from realising that some people could actually get insurance without meeting the somewhat basic requirement of a license. But with time I learnt that it is possible to get car insurance without drivers license.

The first thing I was told, though it wasn’t relevant, is that there exists something called a ‘blind man’s provision’. Apparently if a person is blind and doesn’t have a license it is very possible for them to get car insurance. But it does make sense when you think about it, how is a blind person going to get a license if they can’t see?

When you wish to be insured under the ‘blind man’s insurance’ you must definitely prove your disability. Proving your disability can be done in a variety of ways. One way is to visit your eye specialist and get the relevant supporting documents. But sometimes you don’t even have to do that if it is clearly visible, but they will need documentation for their records.

Once you have this covered you simply have to find someone with a valid driver’s license to drive you around the moment you get the insurance sorted out. This can be a close family friend or a grandchild. Sometimes he doesn’t even have to be there, all you must take to your insurer is his license and birth certificate.

If you don’t have a disability that prevents you from getting a driver’s license you can still get insurance without insurance. One way is by getting insured under your parent’s insurance policies as a third party beneficiary. In the event of an accident the claim will be charged against their policy. All you can do then is contribute towards the payment of monthly premiums.

But if this is not possible you can simply visit an insurance company with your learner’s then get insured. Normally many an insurance company will insure you if you get a proper license after a certain period of time.

Otherwise insurance can be procured once again if you have any other disabilities that prevent you from getting a license. This is the case if you were amputated; if you have a mental illness or if you are too old to be able to drive.
